In our latest guide, we explore WAGO’s innovative lever nut-style electrical connectors.
What is an electrical connector?
The most common method used when splicing wires together is a screw-in electrical connector or terminal block, while in the US they use wire nuts and electrical tape. An electrical connector joins active devices to allow an electrical current to pass through, while a terminal block allows circuits to be connected by providing a reusable endpoint to a conductor. While these are effective ways to connect wires together there is a margin for error – with a connector, if the wires are twisted too loosely, they will not be secure, too tight and they can damage the connector, and with wire nuts, the wires can pop out.
Types of electrical connectors
The three common types of electrical connector are closed end connector terminals, brass bullet connectors, and wiring connector strips (these are a series of connected terminal blocks). To understand more about connectors and terminal, How to use electrical connectors and terminals explains when they are used and how they work, in greater depth.
What is a WAGO connector?
In the UK, terminal blocks consist of metal connectors inside plastic housing. The metal connectors secure the wires when tightened. Since the early 1950s, WAGO have been creating innovative electrical connection systems that use clamp termination technology.
How does a WAGO connector work?
WAGO’s range of terminal block connectors use tool-free levers with cage clamp technology, and push wire cage clamps. Push in technology means no other equipment is necessary when inserting wires into the connector.
The benefits of WAGO connectors
- A wide range of connectors are available for every type of installation, including terminal blocks and pluggable connectors.
- WAGO connectors are time-saving, reducing wiring time by up to 50%.
- Reusable.
- Vibration-proof.
- Easy to use.
Are WAGO connectors legal in the UK?
In the UK, WAGO connectors are totally compliant with British and European standards and regulations, as well as all other relevant and current safety standards. Many electricians are choosing their products as a fast and easy way to terminate conductors more quickly, and without tools.
